Mission
To teach leadership
skills and provide executive coaching to physician leaders
and healthcare executives so that they develop innovative,
collaborative, patient-centered solutions to today’s
challenges that will transform not only their institutions
but ultimately the healthcare delivery system as a whole.
Overview
The Institute for
Medical Leadership was created to help physician leaders
and healthcare executives meet the challenges facing today’s
healthcare industry. It was founded by Dr. Susan Reynolds
and has its roots in the Physician Leadership Training Institute
she developed in 1998 for the American Medical Association. From The Institute’s inception, Dr. Reynolds’
goal has been to further patient-centered leadership and
management in the healthcare industry. Recognizing that
change in the industry required skills not traditionally
taught in medical school, she formulated a thorough and
well-researched curriculum and recruited a faculty of nationally
known experts to teach physicians the skills they need to
maximize their effectiveness as they transition into leadership
positions.
The Institute teaches
leadership and management skills and provides up-to-date
insight into the regulations and requirements affecting
healthcare organizations and their staff. It also offers
legislative updates at both the national and state level
so that leaders can anticipate future developments that
will affect their institutions. By expanding its faculty,
The Institute’s programs now allow not only physician
leaders, but also healthcare executives and Board members
to hone their skills and better understand the mindset and
motivations of healthcare providers.
